Uttarakhand / Chamoli : cracks lying in glaciers in sage Ganga’s originating area, team of scientists did aerial survey
On Saturday, the team of scientists conducted an aerial survey of the glaciers by helicopter on the information of villagers that there were cracks in the glaciers in the origin area of the sage Ganga. The team will submit its report to the government.
At the same time, a joint team of ITBP, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Irrigation Department from Joshimath has also left for the origin of Rishi Ganga to take stock of the current condition of the glaciers. The team will return to Joshimath after two days.
In view of the recent rains, the water level of the sage Ganga had risen, in view of which a team of villagers of Raini area went to inspect the origin of the sage Ganga. Villagers had told the administration that cracks had occurred in the glaciers, so that the possibility of a deluge like the February 7 in Rishi Ganga cannot be ruled out further.
Scientists urged to conduct survey on current status of glaciers
The district administration became alert on the information of the villagers and on Friday, District Magistrate Swati S Bhadoria urged the scientists to conduct a survey on the current status of glaciers in front of the government. On Saturday, a team of scientists conducted an aerial survey of the origin of the sage Ganga in a helicopter.
The team will submit its report to the government. At the same time, on Saturday, the joint team of ITBP, SDRF and Irrigation Department has also left for the origin of Rishi Ganga. The team will return to Joshimath after taking stock of the spot.
