Defending champion Swiatec started with victory, Sinnar got a tough fight
Defending French Open champion Inga Swiatek began her campaign from where she finished last year at Roland Garros. She celebrated her 20th birthday on the tennis circuit by defeating her best friend Kaja Juwan 6-0, 7-5. There was a glimpse of Rafael Nadal’s game in the game of Poland’s first Grand Slam champion Swiatec. He did not give Juwan any chance in the first set. Although Slovenia, ranked 101 in the world rankings, returned in the second set, Switak finally won the match. In the men’s first round, rising Italian Jannik Sinnar faced a tough challenge from Pierre Hugues Harbert of France. Sinnar, however, won the five-set match 6–1, 4–6, 6–7, 7–5, 6–4. Danil Medvedev won the French Open in his fifth attempt to prove that the fruit of the wait is sweet. The second seeded Russian defeated Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 after four first-round defeats in Paris.
