James Anderson becomes the most Test player for England
One of the finest bowlers in the world, England’s veteran fast bowler James Anderson has set another milestone in his cricketing career. He has become the player to play the most Test matches for England with his selection in the second and final Test match against New Zealand in the ongoing Test series here on Thursday.
This is EnderTest’s 162nd match in Test cricket. He has left behind England legend Alastair Cook in this matter. Anderson, 38, made his Test debut 18 years ago against Zimbabwe at Lord’s in 2003. He has 616 wickets in Test cricket, which is a record for England cricket. Overall, he has become the seventh most Test match played player in the world. Before the start of the match on Thursday, he was presented with a special shirt by his teammates with the number 162.
Anderson said about this achievement, I cannot believe that I have reached here. It has been an amazing journey. I am fortunate to have got a body that can withstand the rigors of bowling. I work hard on my fitness and skills and I have the hunger to try to get better every day. This is what I have done since I became a professional and hope to continue for a few more years.
Anderson also revealed that he received a call from former teammate Cook on Wednesday night and congratulated him. He said that getting this call from such a close companion means a lot to him.
It is noteworthy that apart from Test cricket, Anderson has played 194 ODIs and 19 T20 matches. He has played a total of 375 matches in all three formats of cricket which is a record in England cricket.
