Bengaluru Police distributed blankets to the people living on the footpath
Amid the drop in temperature due to heavy rains in several parts of Karnataka, Bengaluru West Division Police has distributed blankets and sheets to those sleeping on the pavement in a humane gesture.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sanjeev Patil told that the police has been at the forefront of conducting humanitarian operations since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state last year.
West division is the nerve center of Bengaluru as most of the business activities come under its jurisdiction, be it Majestic, Kalasipalya, JCA Road, City Market or Chamarajpet, he said. Hence, more people sleep on the pavement here as compared to other divisions.
According to Patil, the officers of City Market police station who were making rounds felt that blankets or sheets should be given to the poor.
One can survive by lighting a fire during winters, but during rainy days, it is also a necessary thing for those who sleep on the pavement, he said. So, our officers decided to help them by distributing blankets.
The DCP said that the officials distributed at least 250 blankets in and around the City Market area on Wednesday night.
