89.3 percent of Moscow’s COVID patients infected with the Delta version
The highly transmissible delta variant has been detected in 89.3 percent of COVID-19 patients in Moscow as the Russian capital sees a surge in new infections. City Mayor Sergei Sobyanin gave this information. Sobyanin said that to face the delta variant, people need to develop antibodies twice as long as previously required, reducing herd immunity levels in Moscow from 60 percent to just 25 percent.
Moscow, the country’s worst-hit region by the pandemic, reported a record 9,056 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the city’s total to 1,269,145, the country’s surveillance and response center said.
Hospitals in Moscow have begun providing medical care only to those vaccinated against the virus, except for emergency treatment.
There have been 17,262 new COVID -19 cases of corona virus in Russia, the highest since February 1. With this, the total number of cases increased to 5,281,309. 126,300 people have lost their lives due to the pandemic.
