Flood alert in 16 districts of Uttar Pradesh in view of the spate of rivers
Sixteen districts of Uttar Pradesh have been put on high alert for floods in the coming days. These include Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Maharajganj, Deoria, Basti, Kushinagar, Siddharth Nagar, Gorakhpur, Gonda, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ballia, Barabanki, Sitapur and Mau. Relief Commissioner Ranvir Prasad has issued a notice to the administration of these districts, expressing the possibility of floods in the coming days.
The affected districts are on the banks of rivers like Rohini, Sharda, Ghaghra and Rapti in which the water level is rising due to incessant rains in the catchment areas of Nepal and UP.
Rohini is flowing above the danger mark, while Sharda, Ghaghra and Rapti are nearing the danger mark and showing an increasing trend due to heavy rains.
The relief commissioner said that from June 14, remote sensing images showed that 28,581 hectares in Maharajganj and 2,674 hectares in Siddharth Nagar were already under water. Since then, it has been raining intermittently in these districts.
