Uttarakhand : Ganga river flowing above danger mark
New Tehri : Due to heavy rains, the river Ganga crossed the danger mark due to the water coming into the Alaknanda river. Due to which there was a situation of panic among the pilgrims. However, people heaved a sigh of relief when the rain stopped. Due to incessant rains since Friday, the water level of Alaknanda river and Ganga river in Devprayag increased one by one. The Alaknanda river started flowing four meters above the danger mark due to heavy inflow of water into the Alaknanda river in the early hours of Saturday. Ganga also crossed the danger mark of 46 meters as Alaknanda flowed above 466 meters for three consecutive hours. The water level of the Ganges decreased slightly after the rain stopped after around 9 am. The flow of Bhagirathi came to a complete halt due to the rise of Alaknanda river. The water pressure in the confluence area was reduced due to the Alaknanda flowing through the Todeshwar island. All the ghats built under Namami Gange including Ramkund, Sangam Sthal, Vashishtha Cave, Surya Gufa, Phulari Ghat, Shanta Ghat, Vetal Shila were submerged in water due to rise in the water level of Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers. During this, the people who came to perform the last rites of the dead had a lot of problems. All the cremation grounds on the river banks were completely submerged on Saturday.
