Jammu and Kashmir : Hizbul terrorist who refused to surrender killed in encounter
Srinagar : A terrorist who refused to surrender was killed in an encounter between terrorists and security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Police said that based on a specific information regarding the presence of terrorists in the gardens of Shirmal area of Shopian, the police, army and CRPF launched a joint cordon and search operation.
Police said, during the operation, the terrorists were given an opportunity to surrender, but they fired indiscriminately at the joint search party, which in retaliation led to an encounter.
In the ensuing encounter, one terrorist was killed and his body was recovered from the encounter site, police said.
The slain terrorist has been identified as Sajad Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat, a resident of Budigam Aishmuqam Anantnag. He was associated with the banned terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen.
The police said that as per their records, the slain terrorist was active since 2020 and was involved in several terror crime cases.
Arms and ammunition, a pistol along with a magazine, a grenade and other incriminating material were recovered from the encounter site.
All the recovered material has been taken on the record of the case for further investigation and to probe Bhat’s involvement in other terror crimes, the police said. During the search operation, a terrorist hideout was also destroyed.
