Karnataka : Police destroyed seized narcotics worth Rs 50 crore
The Karnataka government destroyed confiscated substances including ganja, poppy, LSD, MDMA and cocaine worth around Rs 50 crore to mark the International Day against Substance Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Karnataka had launched a special drive against drugs last year, since then the police had seized drugs worth around Rs 50 crore and 60 per cent of it has been destroyed based on the approval of the courts.
Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that whenever the FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) report comes and the court will allow it, the remaining 40 per cent will also be destroyed. He said that by bringing suitable amendments in the existing rules under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the hands of the enforcement agencies will be strengthened to check this menace.
