Mahmudullah included in Bangladesh’s Test squad

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the inclusion of all-rounder Mahmudullah in the Bangladesh Test squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. Mahmudullah, the captain of the T20 team, was ignored in the longest format of cricket for over a year. The last time he was in a Test was against Pakistan in February 2020. He is understood to be fully fit to bowl now, so he has been recalled to the Test squad.

Earlier the Bangladesh team management was not keen to include Mahmudullah in Test cricket, as he was not bowling due to his injury, but the all-rounder has recently started bowling, even in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). He has also taken 17 wickets in 16 matches. Mahmudullah, 35, has also announced that he is back as a bowler.

With the addition of Mahmudullah, the Test team now has 18 members. Shakib Al Hasan has also been included in the squad, which was announced a few days back. Shakib had decided to pull out of the Sri Lanka Test series to play the IPL.

According to Akram Khan, president of BCB cricket operations, Mahmudullah’s inclusion in the squad will act as cover for a senior batsman. “Tamim and Mushfiqur have suffered injuries, so we have included Mahmudullah as he is a senior member and we don’t want to take any risk,” Akram said in a statement. As he is bowling, so naturally that is the reason behind his inclusion.
