BAI plans to start home season with strict corona guidelines

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has planned to start its remaining domestic season 2021-22 soon with strict corona guidelines. For this, the union in a recent statement has asked all the state associations to get their players and officials vaccinated at the earliest. The season will begin with the senior ranking tournament followed by other age group events.

According to the newly announced guidelines by BAI, players above 18 years of age, coaches, technical officials, organizing team and staff will be required to get both doses of the vaccine and carry a vaccination certificate with a valid barcode, however It is mandatory for shuttlers below the age of 18 to bring a corona negative report 96 hours before arrival at the venue.

Ajay Singhania, general secretary of BAI, said in a statement, it has been more than a year now that the domestic season was closed. We are trying to start it, but the situation did not allow us to move forward. However, now we want to make sure that when tournaments do start, we start it with full participation at the same time and all safety protocols are in place, which is important to encourage vaccination. The purpose of this information is to make all people, all state association players and stakeholders aware about getting the vaccine immediately.

It is noteworthy that BAI had earlier this year decided to resume domestic badminton in the country with the senior ranking tournament in April with a revised prize money of Rs 2.2 crore for its domestic season, but the country has been hit by the coronavirus pandemic. The tournaments had to be postponed due to the second wave of coronavirus outbreak, however BAI’s announcement of early resumption of the remaining domestic season 2021-22 will come as a ray of hope for all Badminton players and badminton enthusiasts in the country.
