Defense production personnel will no longer be able to strike

Essential Services Ordinance implemented, will be jailed for not following

The government has taken a big step against the strike of the personnel involved in the defense related essential services. The government has issued an ordinance against the striking employees. Under this, it will be costly for the employees to stop work suddenly. He will even have to go to jail.

This ordinance prohibits the strike and any kind of protest by the personnel involved in the essential services related to defense. The Essential Defense Services Ordinance, 2021 has been brought in view of several big associations associated with the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) recently announced to go on an indefinite strike from next month against the government’s decision to make OFB a corporation.

According to a gazetted notification, employees involved in the production, service and operation of defense equipment or those involved in the production of any industrial establishment connected with the military as well as those engaged in the repair and maintenance of defense products will come under the purview of the ordinance. According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Law, any person who starts a strike or takes part in any strike which is illegal under this ordinance shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine of Rs 10,000, or with both. can be punished.

The government approved this proposal

In fact, in June, the government, taking a big step towards policy reform, approved the pending proposal to reconstitute the nearly 200-year-old Ordnance Manufacturing Board. Under this, the board will be changed into different companies, so that the accountability of the work increases. The Board currently has 41 factories manufacturing arms and ammunition.
