Uttarakhand : High Court seeks reply from State Government and MDDA
Nainital. The High Court has directed the State Government and MDDA to file a reply within three weeks after hearing the PIL filed in Dehradun for plotting by converting river, drains and ravines into barren land. In the past, the court had directed the District Magistrate, Dehradun to put a stop to the construction work being done by illegal plotting.
The matter was heard before a division bench of Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Alok Kumar Verma. Ajay Narayan Sharma, a resident of Dehradun, had filed a public interest litigation in the High Court saying that the land mafia is doing illegal plotting by converting river land into barren land in the Sahastradhara area of Dehradun. The petitioner had demanded a stay on these and said that action should also be taken against the officers on whose strength this work is being done. The petition said that due to the change in the nature of the land, the river drains are losing their existence.
