Pushkar Singh Dhami became the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Governor Baby Rani Maurya administered the oath
BJP MLA from Khatima Pushkar Singh Dhami took oath as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Dhami became the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Governor Baby Rani Maurya administered him the oath of office and secrecy at the Raj Bhavan in Dehradun. Many big leaders including former Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat were present in this swearing-in ceremony. Meanwhile, BJP MLAs Satpal Maharaj, Harak Singh Rawat, Bansidhar Bhagat and Yashpal Arya took oath as ministers in the new state cabinet.
Earlier on Sunday, Uttarakhand’s nominated Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spent most of his time persuading disgruntled leaders of his party on Sunday ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. According to BJP sources, some leaders like Satpal Maharaj and Harak Singh Rawat, who were cabinet ministers in the former cabinet, are angry with the party high command since Saturday. In-charge of party affairs, Dushyant Kumar Gautam, along with state party president Madan Kaushik, kept trying to allay the displeasure of the leaders at his residence in Yamuna Colony, so that there was no disturbance in the swearing-in ceremony.
However, amidst reports of rebellion in Uttarakhand BJP over the election of Pushkar Singh Dhami as Chief Minister, several leaders, including ministers and senior leaders, denied any discord. Harak Singh Rawat, Yashpal Arya and Bishan Singh Chupal, ministers in Tirath Singh Rawat’s government, said there is no infighting and the swearing-in of Dhami’s cabinet will take place in the evening as per schedule.
There was a strong rumor in Dehradun since morning that senior leaders and ministers Satpal Maharaj and Harak Singh Rawat, unhappy with Dhami’s selection, have reached Delhi. Harak Singh Rawat clarified that he is in Dehradun and is with the party leadership. Harak Singh Rawat said, I am in Dehradun and sitting here with everyone. All reports of my presence in Delhi to seek time for the central leadership are baseless and rumours. Dhami himself also met Satpal Maharaj and presented him with a bouquet. It is believed that he has convinced Maharaj. However, former state president of the party, Banshidhar Bhagat said that no one is angry in the party and everyone stands united with the party’s decision.
