ByteDance selling Tiktok AI to other companies including India
China-based ByteDance, which is the parent company of TikTok, has reportedly started selling the AI technology of the short video-making app to other companies, including India, where the TikTok app is banned. The company has started a new division called BytePlus. Through this, the company is selling TikTok AI to companies like India-based social gaming platform GamesApp, US fashion app Got, Singapore travel site Vigo, Indonesian shopping app Chilibelly.
In 2020, the Indian government banned several apps developed by Chinese firms, including TikTok. At that time, concerns were raised that these apps were involved in activities that could endanger the national security and defense of the country.
Last month, Nikhil Gandhi, the India head of TikTok, the short video-sharing platform owned by China’s ByteDance, decided to step down. Tik Tok had in 2019 inducted Gandhi as its India chief to drive the next phase of development of the Chinese short video-sharing platform.
TikTok’s recommendation algorithm is a big part of what has made it so popular.
According to the report that surfaced on Sunday, BytePlus is giving customers the chance to access the TikTok recommendation algorithm, and personalize it for its app and customers.
BytePlus offers automatic speech and text translation and real-time video effects as well as data analysis tools, according to its website.
The company said in a recent blog post that its For You feed determines which videos to serve to a given user.
Its recommendations are based on user interactions, including which videos you like, comment, share, or create, video information, and device and account settings, including what device you’re using, language preferences, and Location settings included.
TikTok’s source code and user data is kept separate from its parent company ByteDance’s other businesses.
