Explosion in chemical factory, 20 injured
At least 20 people were injured in an explosion and subsequent fire at a chemical factory near Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport on Monday.
A massive fire broke out at a plastic foam manufacturing factory in Samut Prakan’s Bang Phali district at around 3 am.
It is suspected that the explosion may have been caused by about 20 tonnes of chemical material stored in the plant.
At least 20 factory workers as well as residents were injured in the blast and caused serious damage to 10 factories and the adjoining residential area.
The local government has ordered mandatory evacuation for all residents and businesses within a 5 km radius of the plant.
The fire has been largely brought under control, but officials are yet to investigate the cause and damage of the blast.
