Jammu and Kashmir state status should be restored before assembly elections: PAGD

The PAGD today said that the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir should be held only after the restoration of statehood. The PAGD said in a statement that the coalition members met under the chairmanship of National Conference President Farooq Abdullah at his residence in Srinagar last evening.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami, Justices (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi, Javed Mustafa Mir and Muzaffar Ahmad Shah were called to discuss the recent meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Delhi on June 24.

PAGD reiterated its commitment to fight the unconstitutional and unacceptable changes imposed on the people of J&K on 5th August, 2019.

All PAGD members expressed their dismay at the outcome of the Delhi meeting. Disappointment was expressed especially at the absence of any significant confidence building measures such as the release of political and other prisoners from prisons.

As far as restoration of statehood is concerned, it has been the commitment of the BJP on the floor of Parliament and they should honor their promise. Therefore, any assembly election should be held only after restoration of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
