Mithali said on slow scoring – no need for people’s advice

Indian women’s ODI captain Mithali Raj has responded to criticism of her slow strike rate, saying she does not seek advice from people as she knows her role in the team’s international cricket in all formats, overtaking former England batsman Charlotte Edwards in the third ODI. Mithali, the highest run-scorer in India, said during the post-match press conference that, I have read that criticism is about my strike but as I have said before, I do not want advice from people. I have been playing for a long time and I know I have a certain responsibility in the team.

The 38-year-old went ahead of the 10,273 runs scored by Charlotte. Mithali’s batting helped India beat England in the third ODI but lost the series 1-2.

In the third ODI, Mithali scored 75 runs in 86 balls not out. Mithali took 108 balls for 72 runs in the first ODI at a strike rate of 66.66, while in the second match she scored 59 runs in 92 balls at a strike rate of 64.13.

The captain said that she is only following the instructions of the team management.
“That’s the job the coach has given me and I’m ready to take it because at some point I know the top order is already in the dugout and it was important for me to understand the situation and how I can maneuver,” she said. And with the coming batsmen I will try to bring the match as close as possible.
