Nigeria Police rescues 27 kidnapped people

Nigerian police have confirmed to have rescued 27 people kidnapped by gunmen from a secondary school in the country’s northwestern state of Kaduna. Police said a group of unidentified gunmen stormed Bethel Baptist High School in Damishi City of Chikun Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday and abducted unidentified students.
A police spokesman in Kaduna said security personnel were immediately dispatched to the area following information about the abduction. Jalige said, the gunmen chased away the security guards of the school and entered the students’ hostel, where they kidnapped several people and took them into the forest.
According to a police spokesman, a joint team of Nigeria Police, Army and Navy chased down the attackers and managed to rescue 26 students and a female teacher.
He said that the rescue operation was still on to ensure the safe return of all the victims.
He said that strategic measures would be taken to prevent the occurrence of such a dastardly act against innocent children.
In recent months, there have been incidents of gunman attacks in Nigeria, leading to deaths and kidnappings.
