Government’s attitude against Twitter will be more strict
⏺️New IT Minister said that Twitter has to follow the rules
⏺️Ravi Shankar’s farewell due to not playing the proper role
Despite the change of minister, there will not be even a slight softening of the government’s stand against Twitter. As soon as he took over as the Information Technology Minister, Ashwini Vaishnav indicated to continue the strictness against Twitter. He said that the law of the land is above and no one, including Twitter, is above the law of the land.
In relation to the ongoing controversy with the social media platform Twitter, he said that no one is bigger than the Constitution and the law in the country. Whoever lives or does business in India, he must obey the law of the land. The law of the land is above all and Twitter has to follow the new rule.
Significantly, Vaishnav has been made the new Information Technology Minister in place of Ravi Shankar Prasad. Prasad was in the news due to a dispute with Twitter over the rules set by the government for the social media platform. It is believed that he was discharged for not being able to properly present the government’s side in the dispute and failing to fulfill his role as a minister.
What is the dispute ?
Actually the government has implemented new rules for social media and digital media companies. Under the new rule, they will have to take responsibility for the content of third parties. They will have to respond to the content generated on their platform. Apart from this, under the new rule, they will have to appoint an officer based in India as Grievance Manager for redressal of complaints. There has been a tussle between the government and Twitter for a few months over the new rules.
