35 killed in gunmen attack in Nigeria

Gunmen have killed at least 35 people in five villages in northwestern Nigeria’s Jamfara state.

Jamfara police spokesman Mohammad Shehu said gunmen attacked five villages in the Maradun local government area in large numbers, destroying homes and properties and firing at unsuspecting residents.

Shehu said thirty-five people were killed in the attack.

The security forces could not reach the affected villages in time after receiving information about the attack by gunmen due to poor road condition, a police spokesman said. He said the police are currently looking for the gunmen. In recent months, gunmen have carried out a series of incidents in Nigeria, resulting in deaths and kidnappings.
