APEDA holds meeting in Varanasi to promote export of agricultural products
In order to promote export of agricultural crops and adhere to global practices, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) in association with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), traders, exporters, agricultural scientists, Government of Uttar Pradesh and other institutions Organized a meeting in Varanasi today.
More than 200 farmers of Varanasi region participated in the meeting, where agricultural scientists and officials of premier institutes demonstrated the importance of following globally recognized Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) by the farmers along with promoting export of agricultural products from the region. Farmers were also provided technical information on GAP implementation, ensuring pest-free farming, disease identification in fresh fruits and vegetables, plant quarantine, and strategy to promote agri-exports from Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The meeting was attended by ICAR- Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture, ICAR- Indian Institute of Soil Science, ICAR- Indian Institute of Botanical Research, IRRI- South Asia Regional Center, Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Jaunpur, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Chandauli) and Agriculture Scientists from the Uttar Pradesh State Agriculture and Horticulture Departments and officials from premier institutions participated.
Senior officials from NABARD, NAFED, SFAC, Balmer Lawrie and other institutions apprised the farmers, FPOs and exporters who participated in the meeting about the schemes of their respective departments.
A special session on Export of Bananas was organized in which the representative of APEDA registered exporter briefed the participants about the processing of Banana.
The event was a part of a series of events to mark the 75th anniversary of Independence in Varanasi, where the government has taken an initiative under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. It is an initiative to celebrate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.
APEDA is working closely with all stakeholders with the aim of exporting India’s agricultural produce to the global market. A presentation was also made on the assistance provided by APEDA in promoting agri-exports from Varanasi region.
