Uttarakhand : High Court seeks response from KUVIVI on appointment of Vice Chancellor
The High Court, while hearing the petition challenging the Vice Chancellor of Kumaon University, has sought a response from the Chancellor and the university within a week. A division bench of Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Alok Verma asked who were the members of the appointment committee of the Vice Chancellor. Dehradun resident Ravindra Jugran has filed a petition in this regard saying that the Vice Chancellor of Kumaon University, Prof. NK Joshi does not possess the prescribed qualification for the post. Joshi has given false and misleading information in the bio-data attached to the application form of the post. Rules have been made in the University Grants Commission and the UP Universities Act for the posting of a person to the post of Vice-Chancellor. For this, 10 years experience in the post of Professor in a University or experience in a similar post in Research Institute or Academic Administrative Institution has been fixed. Under the prescribed procedure for appointment to this post, first the Chancellor Governor invites applications from eligible candidates. After this a search committee is formed. This search committee selects three candidates from among the eligible candidates. The Governor then nominates one of those three Vice Chancellors. It is also stated in the petition that Prof. The education records of NK Joshi are misleading. He has done MSc in Physics and has done PhD in Forest Science and has served as Professor in Computer Science. He has never been a professor in any state university or institution, so he does not even possess the prescribed qualifications for Vice-Chancellor. The search committee has selected him against the rules, so he should be removed from the post of vice-chancellor.
No relief from High Court for BJP MLA on misconduct charge
BJP MLA from Jwalapur, Suresh Rathore, trapped in the misconduct case, is yet to get relief from the High Court. He has filed a petition for a stay on the arrest and quashing of the FIR. The court, while not giving any decision in his favor, has asked the state government to present the affidavit by July 19. The matter was heard in a division bench of Chief Justice Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Alok Verma. In the petition filed in the High Court on behalf of Jwalapur MLA Suresh Rathore, it has been said that an FIR has been lodged against him at the police station Bahadarabad on July 1, alleging misconduct on the part of a woman. All the allegations leveled are baseless, he is ready to cooperate in the police investigation. He has also said that a year ago he had also filed a case of blackmailing against the woman. After investigation, the police had sent two other accomplices including the woman and the husband to jail. But both were released by the lower court during the Kovid period. After coming out of jail, out of revenge, the woman has filed a false case of misconduct against him. At the same time, the woman says that the MLA misbehaved with her several times. It is alleged that he threatened himself to be a ruling party MLA and offered to get a post in the party. When she was going to meet the police to complain about it, she was forcibly arrested near the police station. The police also did not register his FIR. After this he complained to the SSP. After this the police registered a case under section 156(3) of the IPC. The next hearing in the matter will be on July 19.
