5 dead, 10 missing due to storm in China

Five people have died and 10 are missing after heavy rain in northern China’s Shanxi province. The Emergency Management Department gave this information on Tuesday. From July 10–11, torrential rains lashed Xinzhou and flooded the city’s Taihui and Yantou townships, killing three people and injuring three.

On Sunday, the city of Jincheng received 268 mm of rain, killing two and leaving 10 others missing, the worst rain in a century. Due to this people’s homes have been damaged.

This spell of rain has been the heaviest in Shanxi since the start of this year’s flood season. The Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters activated an emergency response to the flood at 6 p.m. Sunday.
