British Prime Minister Boris Johnson condemns racial abuse against England football players
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has condemned the racial abuse of three black players of the team after the England team’s defeat against Italy in the final of Euro 2020. In fact, the match reached a penalty shootout after the end of full time on a score of 1-1 in the final of Euro 2020 at Wembley Stadium. In this, England’s three black players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka missed goals in the penalty shootout, soon after which all three players faced racial abuse on social media.
The Prime Minister said in a tweet, “This England team deserves praise on social media as heroes rather than racial abuse. Those responsible for this misbehavior should be ashamed of themselves.
The England Football Association (EFA) has also condemned the move. The union said in a statement that it was shocked by this abhorrent behaviour. European football’s governing body UEFA also condemned this abhorrent racist abuse, saying, “We stand by the players and the football union’s call for the strongest possible punishment.”
London Police has also condemned the abuse, calling it unacceptable and said it would investigate provocative and racist social media posts.
It is noteworthy that the England team has been highlighting the issue of racism throughout the tournament, taking a knee before all their Euro 2020 matches.
