Jordan’s former finance minister sentenced to 15 years

Jordan’s former finance minister and head of the royal court, Bassem Avdallah, and member of the royal family Sharif Hassan Ben Zeed have been sentenced to 15 years in prison for inciting acts against the Crown. Awdallah and Ben Zaid were sentenced after being accused of inciting against King Abdullah II and causing chaos in the country.

The State Security Court said Avdallah occupied key positions in the country, giving him the opportunity to build a network involving both domestic and external factors.

In June, the court announced the trial of Avdallah and Zaid. He was accused of harming the safety and security of Jordan and of destabilizing the country.
Jeed was also accused of drug dealing.
In April, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safdi said that Prince Hamza, Avdallah and Zeid had liaised with outside powers to take some action against the country.
