Himachal Pradesh / Solan : Session on equality and acceptance for LGBTs held at Shoolini University

Shades of Love Club at Shoolini University organized a virtual session with India’s first transgender Kathak dancer and women’s rights activist Devika Mangal Mukhi as guest of honour.
The online session was about equality and acceptance by society for transgender, bisexual and homosexuals. Shades of Love Club at Shoolini University works to spread awareness and inclusivity about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBTQ).
Vice Chancellor Prof. Atul Khosla said, “Universities should have a system to question what is contradictory in society. We at Shoolini University provide an environment for debate which is absolutely unprecedented and others like caste, religion, diversity etc. addresses the issues.” Saroj Khosla, President, Shoolini University was also present in the session.
Devika Mangal Mukhi talks about the cultural diversity, discrimination, their struggle and the stigma given by the society. Devika said that “education is the biggest weapon” and as long as you are equipped with education, you can achieve everything, she further says that she wants to open a school for trans, where they will groom themselves.
He had also spoken to Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and he has promised to help him. Devika also wants to organize an international transgender festival, where people from different parts of the world will come together and exchange ideas, culture and dance forms. The session ended successfully with concluding remarks by Poonam Nanda Dean Students Welfare and she said that we need to change our thinking to accept everyone with respect in the society.
