Around 40 people fell into a well while watching the rescue operation of an eight-year-old girl in Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh last night. Four people have died in this accident, while many people are still missing. So far 19 people have been evacuated. According to the information, on Thursday night in Ganjbasoda of the district, a girl child had fallen down after slipping in the well, to save more than 40 people standing on its bund suddenly fell into the well and got buried in the debris. Instructions have been given to conduct a high level inquiry into the incident. On the other hand, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Free treatment will also be given to the injured. However, it is not yet known how many people are trapped under the debris. This well is about 50 feet deep and water is said to be about 20 feet in it. The Chief Minister is personally monitoring the ongoing relief and rescue operations at the spot. Chouhan directed for a high level inquiry into the incident and to provide all possible medical assistance to the victims. He expressed grief over the loss of those killed.
At the same time, Madhya Pradesh’s Medical Education Minister and district in-charge Minister Vishwas Sarang said that 19 people have been rescued so far. He has been sent to the hospital for treatment. He said that the water of this well is being taken out through machines. In this accident, two people who were rescued after falling in the well said that the accident happened while rescuing a girl who fell in the well. Some people got down in this well to save him, while about 40-50 people stood on the ridge and roof of the well to help and watch him. Meanwhile, the roof of the well collapsed, causing around 25-30 people to fall into the well, he said.
He said that about 12 people, including both of them, were pulled out of the well with the help of ropes and rescued by the villagers present there. Both have suffered minor injuries. He said that the iron rod which was fixed on the roof of the well had rotted away. So she broke down and this accident happened.
Around 11 o’clock in the night, a tractor engaged in rescue work also fell into this well, due to which some people including four policemen also fell in this well. Out of these, three policemen and some others have been safely evacuated.
Earlier, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that NDRF and SDRF teams have left from Bhopal. District Collector and SP are present on the spot. He said that I have instructed the minister in-charge of Vidisha, Vishwas Sarang, to reach there.
JCB machines are being used for rescue work. According to the information, this well is about 50 feet deep and is also filled with water. This incident happened around nine o’clock in the night. All the rescued people have been taken to the hospital.
