Xiaomi ranks second in global smartphone shipments for the first time
Chinese company Xiaomi has become the second largest smartphone seller globally (in terms of unit shipments) for the first time in the month of April-June, according to a report showing a surprising increase in the epidemic. According to market research firm Canalys, Samsung was still the leading company with 19 percent of smartphones. This time Xiaomi took the second place with 17 percent share for the first time.
Apple was ranked third with 14 percent market share, while Vivo and Oppo maintained a strong growth momentum to complete the list of top five smartphone players worldwide in terms of unit shipments.
Canalys Research Manager Ben Stanton said, “Xiaomi is rapidly expanding its overseas business. For example, its shipments to Latin America have increased by more than 300 percent, to Africa by 150 percent and to Western Europe by 50 percent.
As it grows, it develops, Stanton said. It is now expanding its business model with initiatives such as channel partner consolidation and more careful management of old stock in the open market.
Xiaomi is still largely tilted towards the mass market, and compared to Samsung and Apple, its average selling price (ASP) is about 40 percent and 75 percent cheaper, respectively.
As Stanton elaborated, a major priority for Xiaomi this year is to increase sales of its larger devices, such as the Mi 11 Ultra. But it will be an uphill battle, with Oppo and Vivo coming together, and both are willing to spend money.
In the second quarter of 2021, global smartphone shipments grew by 12 per cent, as everything started to return to normalcy for economies and citizens, following the worldwide vaccine outbreak. (IANS)
He said that all the companies are working hard to increase the short supply in the midst of global shortage, but Xiaomi is trying to come first. Also, it wants to displace Samsung from the world’s largest vendor.
