Facebook killing people by giving false information about COVID : Biden
US President Joe Biden has once again hit out at Facebook, saying such social media platforms are killing people by allowing the spread of misinformation about the COVID vaccine. In a conversation with the media, Biden directly criticized Facebook.
When asked to deliver a message for social media platforms like Facebook, Biden replied, “They are killing people.” The outbreak of the epidemic is more on those who do not take the vaccine and they are killing people.
Facebook defends its policy to fight vaccine misinformation. A spokesperson for the company told The Verge, “We will not deviate from allegations that are not supported by facts.”
The spokesperson further said, the truth is that more than 200 million people have seen official information about Kovid-19 and vaccine on Facebook, which is more than anywhere else on the Internet. More than 33 million Americans are using the Vaccine Finder tool to find out where, when and how to get the vaccine.
Earlier this week a report by US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy called for a crackdown on accounts sharing misinformation on social media platforms.
He told reporters, he has designed product features such as the like button, which delivers not just accurate but emotionally charged content. And their algorithms give us more information about the thing that we click on and they keep dragging us into the abyss of misinformation.
