Sonia Gandhi forms Parliament Group, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to continue as floor leader
Congress President Sonia Gandhi has reconstituted the party’s Parliament Groups for both the Houses for effective functioning of the party ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning July 19. Putting an end to all speculations, Sonia Gandhi has allowed Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to remain as the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha. Sonia Gandhi, as the President of the Congress Parliamentary Party, had issued a letter on 15 July. Which said, I have decided to reconstitute the following groups in order to facilitate and ensure the effective functioning of our Party in both the Houses of Parliament.
In the Lok Sabha, this party includes Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Gaurav Gogoi, Manish Tewari, K. Suresh, Manickam Tagore, Shashi Tharoor and Ravneet Bittu.
In the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh, Ambika Soni, Digvijay Singh, P. Chidambaram and K.C. Venugopal will lead the opposition against the government.
The letter said that they would meet regularly during the session and later, whenever required, Kharge has been authorized to convene a joint meeting.
Congress has decided to raise the issue of inflation, hike in petrol prices, Covid mismanagement and border with China in the upcoming monsoon session.
The Party Strategy Group for Parliament, chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi, met on Wednesday evening. In which the party is of the view that it should raise the Rafale issue following the recent developments in France, where an investigation into alleged bribery has been launched.
The task of coordinating with other opposition parties has been entrusted to Rajya Sabha leader Mallikarjun Kharge as the party wants a joint opposition strategy in the House to corner the government.
