There is a rift in Mahavikas Aghadi! Congress will now contest civic elections alone in Maharashtra
Despite being together in a coalition government, the Congress will contest the local body elections in Maharashtra alone. State unit chief Nana Patole said that for this Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has proposed a master plan for the future of the party in the state. He said that despite being in a coalition government under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the Congress would contest the local elections alone. Nana Patole along with Karnataka Congress in-charge HK Patil met Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday to discuss the party’s strategy in the coming days.
Nana Patole told the media that the Congress would fight the Maharashtra local body elections alone. For Maharashtra Congress, my dream is to make the party number one. Rahul Gandhi has given a master plan, on which work will be done. We will do anything to strengthen Congress. He said that the party leaders also discussed the formation of the organization in the meeting.
Asked whether the Congress party will fight the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections with MVA allies Shiv Sena and National Congress Party (NCP) or will fight alone, Nana Patole said the election is after three years. The party high command will take a decision on this. The statement comes amid the ongoing rift between the parties of the MVA government. Earlier, Patole had alleged that the Maharashtra government was tapping his phone and some people were stabbing the Congress in the back.
There is a crack in the Maha Vikas Aghadi. NCP sources also pointed out that some MVA leaders are upset with Nana Patole’s recent statements about his party’s growing influence in Maharashtra. However, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, HK Patil and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat met Sharad Pawar at his residence in Silver Oak last week and assured that the MVA government is stable. He also assured Sharad Pawar that Congress chief Nana Patole’s statements on the MVA alliance would not be repeated.
