Expressed displeasure over the slow functioning of the Disaster Operation Center
District Magistrate Dr R Rajesh Kumar took stock of the arrangements by conducting a surprise inspection of the Disaster Operation Center of the district today. During this, he also obtained information from the personnel posted at the Disaster Operation Center about the number of roads blocked due to rain and the roads opened in the district. Expressing displeasure over the sluggish functioning of the Disaster Operation Center, the District Magistrate directed the Disaster Management Officer to improve it. He said that disaster is like an uninvited guest which can come at any time so it becomes important that emergency services are on active mode 24 hours a day. While checking the duty register at the Disaster Operation Center during the inspection, the District Magistrate, expressing displeasure over the absence of two employees on duty, directed the District Disaster Management Officer to send a letter to the Head of the Department of the concerned employees for action. The District Magistrate directed the District Disaster Management Officer to paste the names and mobile numbers of the concerned employees on the notice board while imposing 15 days roster wise duty of the employees so that any public could directly contact the personnel. He said that any kind of negligence in the work related to disaster management will not be forgivable, if any personnel are found to be negligent in this work, then necessary action will be taken against the concerned. He inspected the various registers of works to be done by the Disaster Operation Center and instructed the concerned personnel to improve the working style. He also got information about the problems and complaints received by the Disaster Operation Center today. The District Magistrate directed to impose the duty of a Deputy District Magistrate level officer for coordination between the Disaster Operation Center and the District Administration. He asked the District Disaster Management Officer to designate the rooms according to the material kept in each room while arranging the equipment kept in the store so that unnecessary time is not spent on the need of equipment and various materials. He said that the Disaster Operation Center should be in such a position that if any incident happens, the rescue team should reach the spot within 20 minutes in the nearby area and as soon as possible in the remote area and start the rescue operation. In the District Disaster Management Center, information regarding obstructed roads, water logging, water level should be obtained every hour. He directed the District Disaster Management Officer to inform the District Magistrate’s office about every hour’s information regarding the disaster in the district. He appealed to the people of the district to inform about the incidents happening in their area on the number 0135-2726066, 2626066 and toll free number – 1077 of the control room of the disaster operation center so that the disaster through the Rapid Accident System (IRS). sensitivity can be minimized.
