India’s limited overs coach Rahul Dravid, who toured Sri Lanka, in his motivational speech in the dressing room after clinching the three-match series with a win in the second ODI, said ‘Team India’ responded like a champion.
Chasing 276 runs for victory, the Indian team was struggling after scoring 193 for seven in the 36th over on Tuesday. Deepak Chahar (69 not out) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19 not out) shared an unbroken 84-run partnership to register a three-wicket win with five balls to spare.
In a video released on BCCI (Cricket Board of India) dottv, Dravid is seen addressing the players in the dressing room. “Obviously we were in the right place in terms of the outcome of the match,” he said. It’s unbelievable and fantastic, but even if we lost the match, the fight was absolutely fantastic. You all did a great job.
“We had said they (Sri Lanka) would come back, we knew we had to respect the opposition. Such a reaction was expected from them as they are also an international team. They came back but we responded like a champion team.
“We found a way out of difficult situations. You all did really well. This was Chahar’s first half-century in ODIs. He showed great sense of humor with Bhuvneshwar. Dravid said, “This is not the right time to talk about individual performances, obviously there will be some great individual performances, especially in the last moments of the match.
“We talked about it, we acknowledge the contribution of every player in this game,” he said. If you look at the entire match, the performance of the team was very good. We did so well in bowling too. In this video Suryakumar Yadav, Bhuvneshwar and Chahar are also sharing their experiences regarding the match.
Suryakumar, who scored 53 runs in the match, said, “I have no words. In the matches I have been a part of, I think it was the best match. It is an incredible victory that happened before my eyes. We have been talking about Bhuvi (Bhubaneswar), our experienced player and DC (Chahar) batting. Today he proved himself it was the effort of the whole team. Chahar said in a cheeky manner, “Every time we bowled, we did not get a chance to bat. Found it nice today After fielding 50 overs, I batted for about 25 overs.
