Moderna vaccine for 12 to 17 year olds, EU approved
Till now, only people above the age of 18 years across the world had the facility to get the Kovid-19 vaccine, but now children under the age of 18 will also be able to get the corona vaccine. In fact, the European Union has approved the Moderna company’s Kovid vaccine Spikevax for children aged 12 to 17. The European Medicines Watchdog approved Moderna’s corona vaccine on 23 July for children between the ages of 12 and 17. This vaccine will be given to children as two doses. There will be a gap of four weeks between the two doses. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said SpikeVax was tested on 3,732 children aged 12 to 17, which was successful. During that time it was found that a good amount of antibodies were made in everyone’s body. Similar antibodies were also seen in the age group of 18 to 25. Moderna’s vaccine was approved for use in people 18 years of age and older in 27 EU countries in January 2021. It is also licensed in countries including the UK, Canada and the US, but has not yet been used for children. So far, the vaccine made by Pfizer-BioNtech is the only vaccine approved for children under the age of 18 in Europe and North America. It is worth noting that the Indian company Bharat Biotech also took permission from the government to make a vaccine for children and started the trial of its vaccine on them. According to reports, the Phase II trial of the Covaccine vaccine will start on children in the age group of two to six years next week. Some children in this age group have already been given the first dose, who will be given a second dose in the second phase. Earlier, the company had given both doses to children in the age group of 6-12 years, the results of which are being analysed.
