Olympics: Manu and Yashaswini missed out on making it to the finals

Indian women shooters Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Singh Deswal missed out on a place in the final of the women’s 10m air pistol event at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 19-year-old Manu, world number two shooter in her maiden Olympics, started off well but a technical snag in her pistol took a toll on her performance. After scoring 98 in the first series, he went on to score 95, 94 and 95, dropping out of the top ten.

Manu tried to make a comeback in the fifth series by scoring 98 but in the last series she was left behind by initially two 10s with 8 and three 9 scores. Her score was 575 while France’s Céline Goberville managed to finish two points ahead of her to finish eighth and last qualification.
At the same time, number one shooter Yashaswini returned from a poor start in the second series with a score of 98 in which she scored 10 five times. His total score was 574 after a series of 94, 98, 94, 97, 96, 95. Topping China’s Jian Ranxing set an Olympic record with 587 points. Anna Korakki of Greece came second and Bea Vitalina of the Russian Olympic Committee came third.
