Himachal Pradesh / Nauni : Training Program on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace in Nauni University

A one-day training program was organized for the members of the Internal Committee for Redressal Mechanism for Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni. The training was conducted in online and offline mode by Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women in collaboration with National Commission for Women.

State Women’s Commission President Dr. Daisy Thakur was the chief guest on this occasion. The members of the committee including Vice Chancellor Dr. Parvinder Kaushal and Registrar Prashant Sarkek participated in the training session. Anuj Sharma, Law Officer of the Women’s Commission, gave a detailed presentation on the Act and its background along with the formation of internal committees in the institutions. He also explained the role of the members. He addressed the queries of the members on various legal aspects related to the complaints and also apprised the members about the manner of investigation and resolution of complaints.

Addressing the participants, Dr Daisy Thakur emphasized on making all the staff and students aware about the committee constituted and how it can be contacted in case of any complaint. He said that the names of the members of the committee should be displayed prominently in the premises. Dr. Daisy said that there had been a demand for a long time to train the members of the committee so that they could properly discharge their duties under the Act and hence the training was organized. He also urged the members to ensure confidentiality in such matters and give a fair opportunity to the respondents.

Thanking the Commission for Women for organizing the training, Vice Chancellor Dr. Parvinder Kaushal said that the information provided to the members of the committee would go a long way in spreading awareness about the subject. He asked the members to apply the information gained in the training to improve their performance.

Dr. Kaushal said that everyone should be made aware of these laws and redressal mechanism. He suggested that regular training for the members and dissemination of this information among the students through virtual medium like webinars should be done in collaboration with the State Commission for Women.

Dr. Sunita Chandel, Dr. Meenu Sood, Dr. DP Sharma, Dr. RK Agarwal, Seema Verma and Neelam Thakur, members of internal committee of two colleges of main campus participated in the training. Members of the internal committees of Neri and Thunag colleges also participated in the program online.
