57 killed as boat capsizes off Libyan coast

At least 57 people drowned after a boat capsized in the sea near Khams in Libya.

Safa Masehli, spokesman for the International Migrant Organization, gave this information on Twitter. At least 57 people were drowned at sea after a boat capsized near Khams off the Libyan coast, he said. 20 women and two children were also among the dead. The Libyan Coast Guard and fishermen rescued 18 people.

The survivors of the accident said that the boat had come to a halt due to an engine fault and it capsized in the sea amid bad weather.

Earlier on Wednesday, at least 20 people drowned in the sea after they fell from the boat.
