Indian boxer Ashish Kumar out of Tokyo Olympics
Indian boxer Ashish Chowdhary (75kg) crashed out of the Tokyo Olympics after losing to Erbeek Tuheta of China in the round of 32 here on Monday.
In his first Olympic appearance, Asian Championships silver medalist Ashish Ryogoku lost 0-5 by unanimous decision of the judges in a match played at the Kokugikan area.
Ashish is the third Indian boxer to be ruled out of Tokyo 2020 after Vikas Krishan (69kg) and Manish Kaushik (63kg) lost in the opening round, though Indian boxing champion MC Mary Kom on Sunday won the women’s flyweight (51kg). ) remained in the Olympics by winning the category.
It is noteworthy that India’s Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) will take on Germany’s Nadine Appetz in the women’s welterweight match of the last-16 stage on Tuesday.
