Shreyas Iyer starts training for UAE leg of IPL

IPL franchise Delhi Capitals’ parent skipper Shreyas Iyer is working towards being fit for the UAE leg of the IPL and has started his training.

Iyer, who led Delhi Capitals to the final last season last year, started training five days ago at the indoor BKC facility in Mumbai with the team’s assistant coach Pravin Amre. Earlier this month, Iyer was dropped from the Lancashire squad for the Royal London One-Day Cup due to injury. Amre, who is credited with the revival of Prithvi Shaw’s batting skills after a poor tour of Australia last year, is understood to have been roped in by the franchise to assist Iyer in his training. He will continue to work with Iyer till July 31, after which Iyer is to report at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

They are mainly working inside the boundary wall, as it is not allowed to do so outside and it is raining in Mumbai, a franchise source said. Fitness will be taken up by the NCA officials but given the progress shown in the last five days, Iyer should be fit till the resumption of the IPL.

It is noteworthy that the remainder of the IPL will resume in the UAE on September 19, while Delhi Capitals will play their first match on September 22 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
