The port exercise was conducted at Mombasa from 26-28 July in which Marine Commandos (Marcos) of the Indian Navy trained Coast Guard personnel from Kenya, Djibouti, Mozambique, Cameroon and Georgia. Marcos trained in ‘Visit,’ ‘Board,’ ‘Search,’ and ‘Seize’ (reach, climb, seek, seize – VBSS) operations. Foreign marines took part in this exercise. The exercise was conducted at the Bandari Maritime Academy, Mombasa.

The Cutlass Express exercise is designed to create regional cooperation, create maritime boundary awareness and share best practices for capacity building between the US, East Africa and the western Indian Ocean. Its purpose is to deal with illegal maritime activities in the western Indian Ocean.
