Australia’s triple Olympian Aaron Baynes ruled out of Olympics due to neck injury

Australia’s triple Olympian basketball player Aaron Baynes has been ruled out of the rest of the Olympics due to a neck injury. This has been announced by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).

“Benes, a member of the Australian men’s Olympic basketball team, suffered an injury during a match against Italy in Tokyo, after which he was taken to a local hospital and monitored for his injury,” the AOC said in a statement. He had to undergo several tests and is expected to recover, but he is not in a position to continue with the Olympic competition.

Baynes said on this, ‘I am really disappointed that I cannot continue to play in the Olympics. I’ve been working so hard with the rest of the team in my quest for a historic Olympic medal and I’m disappointed that I can’t do it now, but I’m sure my compatriots will make it happen. Their head coach Brian Gurjian said it was unfortunate, but he was confident of the team’s prospects. The captain of the basketball team, Patty Mills, has spoken of living up to Gurjian’s expectations. “It is a big loss for us,” he said. Baynes’ presence on the field and his style of play has been a big part of our identity for a long time and he will now be missed, but it won’t distract us. Our entire focus will be on our goal, what we have come to achieve. It is noteworthy that the Australian basketball team will play its next group match against Germany on Saturday.
