After the weather cleared on Sunday, Thakur directed the officials to deploy his chopper in its maiden flight to rescue people, including tourists, who were stranded due to the closure of roads in Lahaul-Spiti district for five days.
In its four-day flights, the helicopter will evacuate almost all the stranded people from Tandi and drop them to Baring and Kullu, from where they will be sent to their destinations in public transport by road.
In fact, Thakur, who arrived in Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti, decided to travel in his old helicopter on Sunday to reach the state capital to oversee the ongoing relief and rescue operations so that the new helicopter could be used to rescue the stranded people. can be done for.
A total of 221 people, including tourists from New Delhi, Punjab, Odisha and Maharashtra, were rescued by road from various places till Saturday.
Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Roads Organization (BRO) and local administration have been deployed for the rescue operation.
