American sprinter Sydney McLaughlin wins gold in women’s 400m hurdles

American sprinter Sidney McLaughlin broke her old world record to win the gold medal in the women’s 400m hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics today.

He won the first Olympic gold medal by finishing the race in 51.40 seconds. While her compatriot and Rio Olympics 2016 gold medalist Delilah Muhammed won the silver with a timing of 51.58s, Femke Boll of the Netherlands won the bronze with a time of 52.03s.

The 21-year-old Sydney, a silver medalist at the 2019 World Championships, had earlier set a world record by completing the 400m hurdles in 51.90 seconds at the Olympic Trials in June. In the Olympic final today, he achieved a major milestone by setting a new world record of 51.40 seconds.
