Cargo vehicles return on Assam-Mizoram highway after 2 weeks of conflict

He said that Mizoram Police is on alert to facilitate smooth movement of all types of goods and passenger vehicles in Aizawl.

Officials said that on the instructions of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state Urban Development Minister Ashok Singhal and Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya along with Cachar Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police held talks with all stakeholders in Lailapur.

Cachar Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur told RNS that, on the persuasion of both the ministers, the movement of vehicles started from last night. Most of the stranded vehicles went to Mizoram. There is no problem on the Assam side. We will provide all assistance and safety to drivers and others if required.

Due to the economic blockade on NH-306, Mizoram’s lifeline, supply of essential commodities, transport fuel and medicines were badly hit since the bloodiest border clash on July 26, in which six Assam Police personnel were killed and 100 people including civilians of both the states were injured.
