Commercial flights resume at Kabul airport
Commercial flights, suspended after Taliban militants took over the international airport in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, have resumed.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told Sputnik late Sunday that US forces now assume responsibility for air traffic control at the airport, which is backed by Afghan counterparts. Commercial flights continue, though with some sporadic stops and delays.
The Taliban entered Kabul on Sunday, after which President Ashraf Ghani announced his resignation and left the country. Mr Ghani said his decision was taken out of a desire to stop the violence as terrorists prepared to attack the capital. Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem said the movement brought an end to the 20-year war in the country.
