Taliban beat up Tolo News journalist at a crossroads in Kabul, snatched camera and mobile phone
The news of Tolo News journalist Ziyar Yad being killed by the Taliban surfaced on social media. Apart from this, some news agencies also reported his death. However, now the journalist has given information about himself being alive by tweeting. Ziyar Yaad confirmed on Twitter on Thursday that he was beaten up by Taliban fighters in Kabul. He was covering a news story at a crossroads in the capital, during which he was thrashed. Significantly, since the withdrawal of the Taliban, there is an atmosphere of fear among journalists.
Tolo News also reported on its website that Ziyar Yad and his cameraperson were beaten up by the Taliban on Wednesday while reporting on poverty and unemployment at Haji Yakub Square in Kabul. The reporter of Tolo News also expressed concern over the incident and said that the issue has been taken up with Taliban leaders. Let us tell you that earlier in early August, the Taliban shot dead the director of Afghanistan’s State Information Media Center Dawa Khan Minapal.
Ziyar Yaad tweeted, ‘During reporting, Taliban beat me up in New City of Kabul. Camera, technical equipment and my personal mobile phone were also snatched. Some people spread the news of my death, which is false. Taliban fighters came out of an armored Land Cruiser and hit me at gunpoint. In another tweet, Ziyar Yaad said, ‘I still don’t know why they did this and suddenly attacked me. This issue has been shared with Taliban leaders. However, the perpetrators are yet to be arrested, which poses a serious threat to the freedom of expression.
