The Supreme Court made a strong comment on the inclination of the police towards the ruling party

The Supreme Court has termed a disturbing trend of registering cases like sedition after the change of power. Along with this, the Supreme Court also restrained the Chhattisgarh Police from arresting the suspended IPS officer. The Chhattisgarh government has two criminal cases, including sedition, against the IPS officer in disproportionate assets cases.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana directed the Chhattisgarh Police not to arrest its own suspended IPS officer Gurjinder Pal Singh. However, the apex court has also directed Singh to cooperate in the investigation. During the hearing, the bench said, “This practice is very disturbing in the country and the police department is also responsible for it.” When a political party comes to power, the police officers also start taking the side of that ruling party. After this, when the other party comes to power, the government starts taking action against the police officers. It needs to be turned off. Justice Surya Kant, a member of the bench, has directed the state government to give its response on the matter in the next four weeks. Senior advocates FS Nariman and Vikas Singh were appearing for the suspended IPS officer in the court while senior advocates Mukul Rohatgi and Rakesh Dwivedi appeared for the Chhattisgarh government. Two cases, including sedition, were registered against Singh by the Congress-led Chhattisgarh government.
