Biden, Israeli PM discuss Iran nuclear issue, security ties

US President Joe Biden has discussed the Iranian nuclear issue and bilateral security ties with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. Biden was scheduled to meet with Bennett on Thursday but was rescheduled to Friday by the White House after the deadly attacks on Kabul airport that killed 13 US soldiers and wounded 18.
According to the report, in the Oval Office, Biden reaffirmed America’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s security and supported the Jewish state to deepen its ties with Arab and Muslim countries.
And we’re also going to discuss our commitment to Iran never to develop a nuclear weapon, Biden said. But if diplomacy fails, we are ready to turn to other options.
Bennett expressed his condolences for the American casualties in the Kabul attack.
The prime minister said the Iran nuclear program was the main topic in his discussions with Biden. We’ve developed a comprehensive strategy that we’re going to talk about with two goals.
The first goal is to deter Iran from its territorial aggression and the second is to keep Iran away from nuclear weapons forever, he said.
Bennett took office in June, ending the 12-year rule of his predecessor Benjamin Netanyahu. The visit was Bennett’s first meeting with President Biden.
He had separately met Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday.
