‘Sukhet model’ benefits farmers, new strength to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan : Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the ‘Sukhet model’ of the local Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Madhubani, Bihar, saying that farmers are also getting benefits from this model and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is also getting new strength.

In his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, Shri Modi said, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Agricultural University in Madhubani and the local Krishi Vigyan Kendra have made a good effort together. The name of this initiative of the university is – ‘Sukhet Model’. The purpose of the Sukhet model is to reduce pollution in the villages. Under this model, cow dung and other household waste is collected from the farmers of the village and in return the villagers are given money for cooking gas cylinders.

He said, work is also being done to make ‘vermi compost’ for the disposal of the garbage which is collected from the village. That is, the four benefits of the Sukhet model are directly visible. One is freedom from pollution to the village, secondly the village is freed from filth, thirdly money for LPG cylinder to the villagers and fourthly, organic fertilizers to the farmers of the village.

The Prime Minister said how much such efforts can increase the power of our villages. This is the subject of self-reliance. I will tell every panchayat of the country that they should also think of doing something like this here. Referring to the Kanjirangal Panchayat in Sivaganga district in Tamil Nadu, he said that this small panchayat created another model of ‘Wealth from the West’. Here the Gram Panchayat along with the local people has implemented a local project to generate electricity from waste in the village. The waste is collected from the entire village, it generates electricity and the left over product is also sold as pesticide.

Shri Modi said, the capacity of this power plant in the village is to dispose of two tonnes of waste per day. The electricity generated from this is being used for lighting and other needs of the village. Due to this, the money of the Panchayat is being saved, that money is being used for other developmental works. A small panchayat in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu inspires all of us countrymen to do something or not.
